Two videos

Two things which I just discovered and really like.

First the movie 'Hanna' about a girl who was born in a labaratory. She's not like any other girl she acts more like a warior. She lives with her dad in a forest in Finland till she makes the decicion to have a 'normal' life.
The music was great even as the visuals. Saoirse Ronan did a great job playing the maincharacter Hanna.

Second the music from a band called M83. I got their album as a surprise in my mailbox and I'm listening to it now. Just perfect. I could tell a lot about it but it's better if you just listen to it.

Official trailer of Hanna.

'I wanna be like James Dean'

I'm a real sucker when it comes to 'old stuff' lately. I would like to call it vintage. Two post before the one you are reading at the moment, I mentoined Serge Gainsbourg and Ramses Shaffy, who are both dead. Yesterday Aurélie and me were listening to French chansons which were not younger than 30 or 40 years old and their composers are all dead now. (Think of Edith Piaf and Jaques Brel.)
Now there's something else on my vintage list. James Dean. I'm really into him nowadays. And you gotta love this actor too. His style -so 40's!- and charisma are incredible. The poor guy, born on the 8th of february 1931 in California, died at the age of 24 in a car accident. He'll stay young forever...

Same as Serge Gainsbourg, James Dean makes me think of someone else. To wit James Franco. So I start to use Google a little and found out that James Franco's the one who plays the role of James Dean in the movie 'James Dean'. What's in a name... I think they are my favorite actors of all times. Soon more pictures of both of them. Have to admit I didn't see the total movie yet. Just some scenes. Here's one for you. James Franco as James Dean in 'James Dean':

Maybe I should make it some kind of trilogy. Next one will be about Oscar Wilde. Even more 'vintage'...

Speech(less)

Maybe this is a little bit strange because usually I don't use my blog to share these kind of things. Since I do share everything I like and everything which inspires me, I really need to share this. Last week 'Het Gala van de Nederlandse Film' (something like prom of Dutch movies) took place in Utrecht. They showed (obviously) Dutch movies and handed out prizes, called 'De Gouden kalveren' (Golden Calfs) for movies, actors and actresses. Nasrdin Dchar received one for his role in Rabat. A Dutch movie about three young guys going on a roadtrip to Marrocco. Well-earned.
This part was an introduction on this video which I definitely don't want to forget, because how amazing and lovely is this speech of Nasrdin Dchar. I'm speechless with tears in my eyes.

Unfortunately it's in Dutch, but I'm sure you'll like it eventhough you don't speak Dutch. Everyone speaks the language of emotions.

Serge Gainsbourg

Oh la la. Serge Gainsbourg. I'm really into him lately. I would like to tell a lot about this steamy French singer-songwriter, actor and director, who was, and still is very influential. But it's better to leave it a bit mysterious. Just like his appearance. The typical tall, dark stranger.

Now I talk about him, he reminds a lot me of our own Dutch equivalent: Ramses Shaffy. I think they have a lot in common. Tall, dark, strange, singer-songwriter, womanizers and they both have a very nice repertoire of songs.

And of course one of my favourite songs of monsieur Gainsbourg:

Melancholia

I can't help writing in English. And I think it's a good practice. Talking in English goes almost automatically, but writing is a different story...

I'm not a recensist, but I really need to tell you about the movie I've seen yesterday
Melancholia. I've been waiting for that movie since Cannes in may. The movie, or actually Lars von Trier, the director, got a lot of attention because of his statements about Jews and Nazis. He was persona non grata at the festival, or just banned. In my opinion he just wanted to provoke and get attention for his movie. I guess it worked, the theater was completely full yesterday.
And oh my god (ususally I don't like to use that phrase, but now is the right time to write it down) WHAT a movie. I have to be honest, I had never seen a Lars Von Trier production before. I just saw some trailers and images of his movies and I really loved them. The atomosphere really got me. And so was the movie. I felt kind of nervous till the end and a bit longer. The images & visuals, the music, the characters. Absolutely perfect. You must see it.

Bradley Cooper

I was so extremely busy on wednesday and thursday, I was not able to update my beloved blog. Excusez-moi for that. (I really feel like I have to say sorry to myself.) The good news is that yesterday was the first day in three weeks without an update. I'm becoming a good blogger I suppose.

April the 14th was the day I went to the cinema again. It was too long ago. We could have picked a better movie though. Cause please don't go see 'Limitless'. It's about a guy who takes drugs which increases his brain power. Of course he runs out of pills et cetera.  It was a bit different and movie contains some really nice visuals. But in the end I need to say don't go pay for it. Bradley Cooper was the best part of the movie.
